Mordecai’s Girl was previously a seven-episode web series, the pilot of which was filmed in 2019 and won multiple awards at festivals in the U.S. and U.K. in 2020 and 2021. Due to the production interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the shifting entertainment landscape, the episodes are being adapted into a series of vertical shorts.

The series takes place years after main character Lee has escaped her titular abductor. The experience, while violent and abusive, was for Lee one of fairy-tale romance gone horribly wrong. Not only was her captor rich  and handsome, he claimed to be in love with her, showering her with the trappings of wealth and luxury — while holding her prisoner.

As a character, Lee challenges the concept of the “perfect victim.” Not only has her trauma turned her acerbic, abrasive, and biting, the circumstances of her abduction and captivity leave her doubted not only by those around her, but by herself.  Without the ability to categorically say that every part of the experience was awful, she struggles to trust herself. The series follows nuanced, complex, human characters slowly building relationships, while exploring the nonlinear nature of healing.
